Product Description

One of the most common ailments dogs face are worms. Panacur is used for the prevention and treatment of a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal parasites. It is also used to treat parasites infecting the bronchial tree and lungs. The FDA has approved Panacur for large and small dogs only.

Side Effects & Warnings

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Consult your veterinarian for assistance in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism. Dogs over six months of age should be dewormed at least twice a year with PANACUR Granules 22.2%. For puppies younger than six months, see product label. Approximately 1% of dogs had vomiting associated with the use of this product.

The clinical results prove that the drug has no side effects in animals. In the rarest of cases, certain animals with hypersensitivity develop vomiting and loose stools.

Do not use the medication in animals that are hypersensitive to the drug or any of the benzimidazole carbamates, although there have not been any issues regarding drug interaction. Do not include uncooked meat in the pet’s diet. Pet hygiene is very important to avoid cases of infection and reinfection. Also, take care of personal protection as the chances of parasite infection getting transmitted to humans cannot be overlooked.

Ingredients

Fenbendazole

Fenbendazole is an anthelminthic, used in the management of acute and chronic stages of parasite infections in pet dogs. The medication is active against a wide range of worm types like roundworm, whipworm, hookworm and tapeworms that cause a variety of diseases in animals. Febendazole inhibits or obstructs the energy metabolism of the disease-causing parasite. The anthelminthic property in this component provides quick remedy to gastro-intestinal as well as respiratory tract infections. Fenbendazole also doubles up as an ovicidal that kills nematode eggs. Other than dogs, the medication is also used in cats, puppies and kittens. The drug is available over-the-counter without a prescription and in the pharmaceutical form of granules.

Considering the accurate bodyweight of the animals is important before administering the medicine. The usual prescribed dosage for the treatment of adult dogs and cats is 100mg/2.2lbs. For puppies and kittens that are less than six months of age, administer 50mg/2.2lbs for 3 days continuously. The medication is safe to be used in pregnant animals too; provide 25mg/lbs from 40 days of pregnancy. The medication should be mixed with food.

Directions

Use as directed by veterinarian. Dosage varies due to the dog's exact body weight. Packets of granules should be mixed with the pet's food and administered for several consecutive days for best results. Depending on the dog's health condition and reaction, Panacur may or may not be used longer than three days.

To avoid re-infection, it is important to keep the pet clean and free from fleas and other pests.

Most adult dogs should be de-wormed at least twice a year.
