Gentamicin Sulfate Ophthalmic Solution is a prescription medicine for veterinary use in dogs, cats, and horses. It is a sterile ophthalmic antibiotic used in the treatment of conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria. It can also be used to treat other bacterial infections of the eye. The recommended dose of Gentamicin ophthalmic drops is 1-2 drops in the affected eye 2-4 times a day.
Side Effects & Warnings
Before using, tell your veterinarian if your pet is using other eye drops or eye medications. If your pet has swelling of the face or itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing, contact your veterinarian immediately. Do not touch the dropper opening to any surface including eyes or hands.
Prolonged use may give rise to the overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms such as fungi. If this occurs or if irritation or allergic reaction to this product occurs, the veterinarian or veterinary ophthalmologist should be consulted prior to discontinuing the medication.
Gentamicin Ophthalmic Solution should not be administered in animals that are allergic to it. To prevent the medication from getting contaminated, never let the tip of the ointment tube or dropper bottle touch the eye of the animal or the hands of the owner.
Active Ingredient: Gentamicin Sulfate (3 mg in 1 mL)
Inactive Ingredients: Dibasic Sodium Phosphate, Sodium Chloride, Monobasic Sodium Phosphate, Purified Water. Hydrochloric Acid and/or Sodium Hydroxide may be added to adjust pH (6.5 - 7.5)
Preservative Added: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.01%.
Wash your hands prior to applying the eye drops. Shake the bottle gently to be sure the medication is properly mixed. Do not touch the dropper opening to any surface including eyes and hands. The dropper opening is sterile and if it becomes contaminated it could cause an infection in the eye. Do not use any eye drops that are discolored or that have particles in them.
For dogs/cats/horses(all weights): The usual dose is 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every four hours, or as directed by your veterinarian
