Product Description

Amoxicillin Oral Suspension is a widely used broad-spectrum semi-synthetic antibiotic renowned for its efficacy against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. This medication is instrumental in preventing and treating infections in various bodily regions, including wounds, the mouth, the upper respiratory system, and the urinary bladder.

  • Composition and Effectiveness -Containing amoxicillin as the active ingredient, this oral suspension is particularly effective against various pathogens, including Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, E. coli, and Proteus mirabilis. Its broad activity profile makes it versatile for combating various bacterial infections.

  • Dosage and Administration -The recommended dosage of Amoxicillin Oral Suspension is 5 mg per pound of body weight, administered twice daily for a duration typically spanning 5 to 7 days. It's imperative to continue treatment for an additional 48 hours post-symptom alleviation. The suspension can be administered irrespective of meals and is rapidly absorbed following oral ingestion, swiftly permeating various body fluids and tissues.

  • Excretion and Mixing -Upon administration, Amoxicillin Oral Suspension is predominantly excreted unchanged in the urine, facilitating the elimination of bacterial pathogens from the body. To prepare the suspension, water should be added to the bottle as per package instructions and shaken vigorously to ensure proper mixing. Each milliliter of the suspension contains 50 mg of amoxicillin as the trihydrate.

  • Contraindications and Adverse Reactions -Despite its efficacy, Amoxicillin Oral Suspension is contraindicated in animals with a history of allergic reactions to penicillin. Adverse reactions, although infrequent, may occur, necessitating vigilance during administration. Potential allergic responses should be promptly addressed, with the possibility of administering epinephrine and/or steroids if such reactions manifest.

  • Regulation and Storage -Federal regulations restrict the use of Amoxicillin Oral Suspension to licensed veterinarians or administration under their explicit directive. To ensure optimal efficacy and safety, it's paramount to store the medication appropriately. Unused portions should be discarded after 14 days, and storage should be maintained at controlled room temperature, not exceeding 25C (77F). Before each use, the suspension should be shaken and tightly closed to prevent contamination.

Side Effects & Warnings

Side effects when using amoxicillin include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If an allergic reaction occurs, symptoms include rash, fever, swelling of face or limbs, difficulty breathing, rapid heart beat and incoordination.

A drug overdose might result in vomiting and diarrhea, where the veterinarian should be contacted urgently.

Amoxicillin Oral Suspension should be used only for proven bacterial infections. Animals that are allergic to penicillin should not be given this medication. Extreme caution is required while using this medication in dehydrated animals or those with kidney or heart disorders. Though it can cross over placenta of pregnant animals to the offspring, it is considered relatively safe to use during pregnancy. Amoxicillin Oral Suspension can react with medications such as allopurinol and erythromycin, so it is advisable to discuss the medication history of the pets with the vet before starting the treatment.
